Environmental Volunteer

The volunteer will be invited to work in different projects developed by the Institute in the environmental area, depending on the necessity shown during the stay period:

MINGAU Project – Children Movement “Guardiães das Águas do Universo” (it could be translated closed to “Universal Water Keepers”)

The “mini NGO” MINGAU was the first child’s NGO in Brazil!

Idealized in 2001 by an eight year little girl, the project was born with the objective of alerting the children about the huge problem that we will be involved if we don’t care properly of our water resources.

The NGO dedicates its time to the organization of lectures, workshops, courses and the distribution of environmental educational material to children and teenagers. The best way to accomplish the mission was investing on kids from 0 to 14 years, publishing ecological fables, presenting lectures, environmental courses for children, tips and campaigns about water conservation and preservation, to the present guarantee of future’s generations, teaching how to take care of the environment as a total.

Environmental Educational Project with emphasis on preservation and recuperation of water resources in the formation area of Prata’s Bay and Rio Vivo Project. 

To promote and motivate permanently the environmental education in UGHR1(work field from the project. Hydro regions that evolves São Bento do Sapucaí, Santo Antonio do Pinhal and Campos do Jordão) , emphasizing the water resources through teachers and students’ habilitation and from the environmental diagnoses, using field work realized by public education’s students, associated with the water analysis realized by biological and chemical pattern kits (bio-indicators) or realized by certified laboratories.

Once acquired the results, the NGO divulgates the data through the environmental education program inside schools, as producing press educational material about water issue, based on teacher’s and students’ works from the involved school unit.

Education through a radio project - Environmental Education Campaign through Radio station to the Mantiqueira’s Mountain.

The project has the objective to diffuse environmental information thought radio station, aiming the public knowledge related to the environment issue.

The target audience is the population of the area around the NGO – cities as Campos do Jordão, São Bento do Sapucaí and Santo Antônio do Pinhal.

Everyday there are related radio programs as well as spots and jingles. One interview show happens every 15 days, with a debate about important environmental issues, for example the proceeding of implantation of sewerage treatment process in the region.

Lodging information:

The volunteer will stay on a quite big house, located on a noble area from Campos do Jordão. There are 3 floors.  On the first floor there are 2 dorms (1 ensuite), one bathroom, one living room, one dinner room, one kitchen and one washroom. On the second floor, there is a TV room, one washroom and one bedroom ensuite. On the balcony there is a gazebo and a free area for the volunteers.

Campos do Jordao is an amazing region, with very nice climate located one hour and a half from Sao Paulo. It has lots of mountains, rivers, waterfalls, as well as coffee shops, very good restaurants, bars and entertainment.
