Social Volunteer

“Fundação Vidal Ramos”, based in Florianopolis, is a non-profit organization that works to keep children away from the streets. Unfortunately, in the poor regions of Brazil it’s very common for needy children not to return to their homes after school for a number of reasons; instead, they play in the streets and become easy targets for drug dealers and people who start exploiting them – even their own parents. For these and many other reasons there are many projects in Brazil with focus on poor children.

They help about 300 children with two projects, supervised by a specialist in educational orientation. The children ages vary from 6 up to 12-years-old. The main tasks for the volunteer will be to help teachers with educational and recreational activities. Depending on the volunteer profile and skills other activities may be created according to the project’s needs.

Duration:
Programs can last  from 1 week (pocket version) up to 3 months, depending on your availability. Thinking of making your integration with the local people easier, the long term programs (1, 2 or 3 months) include 15 hours of Portuguese lessons.

Arrival dates: First Monday of every month except January and July
